The New HTC One M8 Dot View Case

The world of smartphones is probably one of the most innovative industries in the world with ever changing designs and technologies. Week in and week out we are constantly being wowed by new concepts and the next generation futuristic designs. Sometimes you wonder just how these guys come up with the technologies they do. One such wonder of an invention is the latest dot view case built specifically for the HTC One M8.

The Dot View Case

This technology from HTC is so captivating in its concept and so refreshing that it amazes almost everyone who sees it. The dot view case, which follows the current trend of folio casing ensures that once the phone is sitting comfortably in its case it is firmly held in place and isn’t going anywhere. With that said, the phone and the case become inseparable buddies. The case, believe it or not, takes on the characteristics of the phone and will reflect the activities of the phone.

Yes, the phone will pick up the time and reflect it, in a dot formation (we assume this is where the name ‘dot view’ came from). It is not just the time that is shown but the current environmental temperature around the phone can also be viewed on the case. Impressed? That’s not all. Should you receive a call, the call will also be reflected on the cover in that characteristic dot formation and just like you would on your touch screen, you can swipe to answer the call or reject the call. You can voice call without having to open the case too. Amazing stuff isn’t it? Oh and we forgot to mention that you can also adjust the volume without having to open the flap and touch the phone. Ingenious if you ask us.

A Closer Look at the Case

The actual case itself is a kind of rubber that is soft to the touch feeling neither too rubbery nor too plastic. You don’t need to worry about gaining access to your ports, it’s pretty easy and straightforward. Performing other functions other than the swipe to answer or reject a call on the case is a bit problematic. Typing as a whole poses the greatest challenge. The case still needs a tad bit of work as it keeps leaving the screen a bit smudged, something to look into HTC. And if you a picture kinda person, you may struggle a bit to take your pics in this case. The dot view case may be purchased in a series of colors – gray, orange popsicle, baton rouge, warm black and imperial blue.

Verdict

We appreciate the creativity that HTC have demonstrated with this case, but we are just not sure we are ready to purchase a smartphone casing for $49 just yet. It’s a bit expensive.
